All attention is focused on the world’s biggest pop icon and her NFL boyfriend as Sunday’s big game approaches. From swirling engagement rumors to outrageous MAGA conspiracy theories, Katie Strick traces their journey to power-couple status.

That their entire love story is fake; that the Super Bowl and Grammy’s have been rigged in the power couple’s favour; and that the democrats have paid Swift to be a secret agent of the Pentagon and endorse their party at the Super Bowl before Kelce proposes on the 50 yard line are among the theories circulating on social media in recent weeks.

“Taylor Swift wins a Grammy today then announces an album. Chiefs win the superbowl next week and Travis Kelce proposes to her on the field. This is all rigged,” is one of the loudest doing the rounds among the Make America Great Again (MAGA) contingent on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, many of whom are accusing America’s hottest new power-couple of helping Biden to spread “woke propaganda” and boost the vaccine rollout.

“I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month… And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall,” reads another.

Naturally, fans of Swift, 34, and Kelce, 34, have been equally loud in quashing such theories, calling them baseless, nonsense and proof of just how extreme the American far-right has become. But whatever the reality, one fact seems to be undisputed: the falling of the Grammys and the Super Bowl into a single week has sent what was already one of the world’s hottest new power couples into the stratosphere.
