Swift quickly denied the allegations made against her, telling PEOPLE through a representative that Kanye “did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account.” This was prior to the insults and humiliation.
“She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message,” her representative added. Taylor’s side of the tale was never made explicit, nor was the original line, “I made that bitch famous.”
He said that before the song’s release, Taylor had given her approval to the lyrics. “I spoke with Taylor over the phone for an hour about the line, and she found it humorous and bestowed blessings upon me,” wrote Kanye. He continued by calling Swift “endearing” in his lyrics and claiming that she was the inspiration behind a controversial line.
He said that she allegedly said, “I can’t be mad at Kanye because he made me famous!” at a meal with a mutual acquaintance. She stated, “[Swift] totally approved that.”
