LOOK: Patrick Mahomes, Hollywood Brown already working out together

When new Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown told reporters on Monday that he expected to get to work with quarterback Patrick Mahomes right away, he wasn’t kidding. On Tuesday, photos of the two of them working out appeared on the Internet

Brown is a big fan of what the Chiefs’ superstar quarterback brings to the table both as a leader and as a player

Patrick Mahomes has established a connection with countless receivers over the years, and hopes are high for the latest partnership being brought his way.

Fresh off a two-year stint with the Arizona Cardinals, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown joined the Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year contract this week. The deal comes with incentives he’ll look to hit, as well as the opportunity to pursue a championship. Should things go smoothly in Brown’s first year in Kansas City, he’s projected to hit the open market and cash out on a multiyear contract.

Speaking to the media, Brown indicated that he’s excited to start that process. It all begins with linking up with Mahomes, something he plans on doing as soon as this week.

“Yeah, I stay out in Texas, so I’ll be working with him,” Brown said. “We’re going to get together this week; just looking forward to building a relationship there.”

Brown is coming off a down 2023 campaign, albeit one that still saw him flash his upside. In 14 games, he caught 51 passes for 574 yards and four touchdowns despite a tumultuous quarterback situation. He remained a dangerous deep threat down the field, showcasing his speed both during routes and after the catch.

Expanding on Mahomes’s athletic tools and acumen as a quarterback, Brown believes Mahomes is the total package.

“The arm talent, the deep arm talent, it speaks for itself,” Brown said. “What can’t he do? He can extend plays. Whatever he’s got to do to win the game, I feel like I’ve watched him do it. From making those big plays to methodically moving down the field, to moving his feet, to playing injured, those are qualities and traits of a guy you want to play for.”

Playing with star quarterbacks isn’t something Brown is a stranger to. The 26-year-old’s two primary signal-callers thus far in his career (Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray) are two of the league’s most talented and exciting players. With that said, Mahomes is on a different level than either of the aforementioned quarterbacks. His combination of experience, leadership, versatility and adaptability is second to none when paired with his talent. Brown knows it, saying Mahomes is a great example of someone he wants to play with.

“From the outside looking in, he just seems like a guy that’s very passionate,” Brown said. “And I’m a very passionate person. He wants to win [and] do everything necessary to win, and that’s somebody you want to play with. You want to play with somebody that’s going to bring the best out of you, that’s going to push your game to the next level. I feel like he’s definitely one of those types of guys.”

There will be plenty of chances for Brown and his new field general to get used to one another in the coming weeks and months. As Mahomes stated over the weekend, the two will utilize offseason throwing sessions to help expedite that process.

One thing has been made clear this week — he and Brown have a mutual understanding and respect. Now, Brown is tasked with adjusting to the king of adjustments and improving a group that underwhelmed outside of Rashee Rice in 2023.
