When you’re an up-and-coming star like Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, it wouldn’t be a big surprise that you have a custom-made trophy room. But it would be a little unusual that it’s filled with shoes and sunglasses.
Mahomes, who grew up in the east Texas town of Whitehouse, is putting down roots in Kansas City with his girlfriend Brittany Matthews. Last summer they bought a $2 million home in the Kansas City neighborhood of Mission Hills, according to USA Today. While renovating the 66-year-old home, Mahomes carved out a lavish closet for his 180 pairs of shoes.
“That has been something that I have wanted for the last six, seven years at least,” Mahomes told Bleacher Report as he gave them a video tour of the closet. Looking more like a boutique, its glass shelves are filled with dozens of high end sneakers. It’s a vast improvement over the previous display, according to Brittany.
“All of his shoes have been all over the house, and I was tryin’ to make my own shoe closet,” said Matthews. “And it didn’t work out so well, so, we’re here now.”
When the lights come up in the closet, visitors are dazzled by the wide variety of shoes. Each pair is showcased to catch the eye.
“When you don’t have enough room I feel like you lose the value of some of your shoes,” said Mahomes.
Instead of famous Italian names, these shoes bear labels like BAPES, Future Craft, and Adidas. Some of the shoes have only been worn once. Others are his go-to guys. His favorite? The Yeezy Triple Black 750s.
“They’re big, but at the same time, you can wear ’em with anything,” said Mahomes.
