See 2 former Chiefs who won’t live up to their new contracts

The Kansas City Chiefs lost key contributors this offseason but that’s going to happen to Super Bowl-caliber teams. Teams can’t keep everyone if you want to compete for a championship and the Chiefs had to make tough decisions.

There are two players in particular who signed inked deals with new teams that they probably won’t live up to for one reason or another. Maybe the deal was simply just too expensive and it’ll be nearly impossible for the player to live up to or maybe the player just wasn’t worthy of inking such a big deal in the first place.

Let’s look at two former Chiefs who will have a tough time living up to these contracts.

Nick Allegretti
Don’t get me wrong, Chiefs fans should be thrilled for Nick Allegretti after he signed a three-year deal worth $16 million with the Washington Commanders. Allegretti was the ultimate backup offensive lineman during his five-year stint in Kansas City and was one of the heroes during the most recent Super Bowl run when he stepped in for an injured Joe Thuney and played well…

The problem with the Commanders giving Allegretti this deal is that the former seventh-round pick hasn’t been a full-time starter during his half-decade in the NFL. In the 2023 regular season, he played just 80 snaps. In 2022, he played significantly more snaps (286) and struggled in pass-blocking. PFF gave him a pass-blocking grade of 35.4 that season.

The Commanders desperately need a better offensive line for their rookie quarterback in 2024, as they allowed Sam Howell to be sacked a whopping 65 times this past season. I’m not sure that Allegretti will live up to the deal he signed mostly because he hasn’t been a full-time starter during his career and there’s going to be a lot more expectations

L’Jarius Sneed
After constantly hearing trade rumors about L’Jarius Sneed, the Chiefs finally shipped their star cornerback off to Nashville where he’ll now be donning various shades of blue. Sneed was a
rockstar in Kansas City’s secondary and was a huge piece of their Super Bowl run this past season. Arguably the biggest play of the postseason was when Sneed knocked the ball out of Zay Flowers’ hands ahead of the goal-line in the AFC Championship Game and Chiefs fans certainly won’t forget him.
