If you’re hoping to see Travis Kelce hitting the Golden Globes Red Carpet alongside Taylor Swift this evening, we’ve got some bad news for you.
Tonight, Swift is hoping to take home her first Golden Globe award tonight after landing her fifth nomination at the annual event, this time for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour which is up for the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Golden Globe. Fans are pumped to see Swift at the event, but sadly she is going solo at the Golden Globes this year and will not have her Kansas City Chiefs boyfriend by her side as she attends the first televised award show of the season.
While Travis Kelce did not take to the field tonight to play in the Chiefs’ Week 18 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, he’s still not going to be able to make it out to Beverly Hills to join Swift at the Golden Globes. Now, don’t read too much into this because there is a very good reason why Kelce isn’t attending the Globes with Swift.
Here’s why Travis Kelce is not at the Golden Globes
Although Travis Kelce did not take to the field, the Chiefs did have a late afternoon game this Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA which Kelce was contractually obligated to attend as a member of the Chiefs starting roster. Kelce was expected to play in Sunday’s Week 18 matchup against the Chargers; however, Head Coach Andy Reed made the call before the game to bench several of the team’s starting players ahead of the playoffs
The Chiefs have already locked down the No. 3 see in the AFC Playoffs meaning win or lose against the Chargers, their standing in the playoffs would not be impacted. With the No. 3 seed locked and today’s game holding no playoff implications for the team, head coach Andy Reid decided to bench the team’s star players in an effort to keep them healthy heading into the playoffs.
While Kelce and several key starters such as quarterback Patrick Mahomes did not have to play today, they still traveled with the team and had to be prepared to play in case the team needed them to come into the game.
