Ed Kelce has nothing but love for his son’s girlfriend!Speaking with The Los Angeles Times ahead of the 2024 Super Bowl, the father of NFL stars Jason and Travis Kelce raved about the latter’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, and time spent with her at Kansas City Chiefs games.
“Every game there’s people crowding outside the front of that suite trying to get a glimpse of Taylor, wanting to meet Taylor,” Ed said.Highlighting, however, that the pop star cannot meet everyone who wants to introduce themselves, he told the newspaper, “Taylor’s very gracious, but she can’t do everything.”
“And she’s got security guys who don’t want her doing anything,” he continued. “That’s their job, and she’s smart enough to know, ‘I’m paying these guys to keep me safe. I should probably listen to them.’ “”But if it was up to her, she’d be out there with everyone who wants her,” Ed added of the singer.
Elsewhere in the interview, Ed — who has previously spoken very highly of Swift — said he knew from the start that the Grammy winner was an intelligent and grounded person, as well as a strong businessperson. He said he got a sense of this from the speech she made while receiving an honorary doctorate of fine arts from New York University in 2022.
“Listening to that, you get a much better sense of who this young woman is, as opposed to the social media blurbs and the gossip magazines,” he told theTimes of the speech. “That’s all celebrity stuff. This is more the real Taylor.”
The father of two — who lives in a suburb of Philadelphia, where son Jason plays football — also said he has been recognized more since Travis and Swift’s romance went public last year.
“A couple places you go to breakfast in Kansas City, and you don’t get the check,” he told the outlet. “Or somebody will buy you dinner.”He continued, “It gets to a point where you get a little uneasy. That’s a nice gesture, but wait a minute. I’ve got a few bucks, I can buy my lunch.”Taylor Swift’s Parents and Travis Kelce’s Dad Ed Mingled in Tight End’s Suite Before Chiefs Game: See the PhotoAnd, discussing how the newfound fame has impacted his sons, Ed said, “My boys know where they’re from. They know that all this notoriety, it is fleeting.”
“Have fun while you’ve got it, but that doesn’t make you a better man. They fully understand that how you treat people is what’s important in this world,” he continued, adding: “As long as that’s their mindset I’m a happy guy.”
