Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle have condoled with the family of American Baseball legend Willie Mays.
Mays died on Tuesday, at the age of 93.
Obama described Mays as one of the few athletes who were blessed with grace, skills and power.
The former US President further said that the Baseball legend was an inspiration to generations and that he was lucky to have spent time with him over the years.
“Willie Mays wasn’t just a singular athlete, blessed with an unmatched combination of grace, skill and power.
“He was also a wonderfully warm and generous person – and an inspiration to an entire generation. I’m lucky to have spent time with him over the years, and Michelle and I send our deepest condolences to his family,” Obama said on X.
His death was announced by the San Francisco Giants.
Major League Baseball (MLB) also said it was heartbroken following the death of one of the most exciting and all-around players in the history of the sport.
“It is with great sadness that we announce that San Francisco Giants Legend and Hall of Famer Willie Mays passed away peacefully this afternoon at the age of 93,” San Francisco Giants said on social media.
Mays was twice declared the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and won the World Series with the Giants in 1954.
He also finished in the top 10 runner-ups for MVP ten times.
Nicknamed the “Say Hey Kid”, May who was a centre fielder was baseball’s oldest living Hall of Famer.
