No other WTA player has managed to emulate Serena Williams’ 2013 prize money achievement

With 11 WTA singles titles in her bag, the American tennis legend reclaimed the world No. 1 status in singles and further managed to maintain the rankings till the end of the 2013 season. Serena Williams’ phenomenal achievement in that particular tennis calendar year also made her the first player to surpass the $10 million prize mark.

The former tennis ace, who had her best winning percentage of 95.1% in 2013, bagged a total prize money of $12,385,572 in that season. A decade has passed since Williams achieved the milestone, yet no other WTA player has been able to emulate iWhile no player has ever taken home this amount of prize money in a single season, a few well-known players on the women’s circuit have come very close to this mark.

Ashleigh Barty previously came close to this prize money mark that was bagged by her former American colleague. The Australian former tennis player, who clinched her first major title at the 2019 French Open, also concluded the season as the number one in the singles.Due to her remarkable on-court achievements, the three-time Grand Slam singles champion bagged a total prize of $11,307,587 in that particular season. Apart from Barty, the German tennis star Angelique Kerber also surpassed the $10 million prize mark in 2016, when she bagged a total of $10,136,615 in that season.
